Simple Skin Care Steps Order

Cleanser

To start off your simple skin care make sure to have a cleanser to match your skin type. For dry skin types like me, i would suggest a hydrating cleanser. Whether it's cream, gel or foam base. Even for normal skin types, I would still suggest a hydrating cleanser. While skin that’s more on the oily side would benefit from a foam cleanser. Foam cleansers strip the skin the least. Meaning that you won’t kick start more over production of oil.

The most important part of cleansing in overall skin care steps is to clean the skin. Without stripping it squeaky clean.

Out of all the skin care routine steps, this is your foundation. Explore face cleanser items within the budget you’re willing to replace them. While I love a good luxurious cleanser. I always find myself going back to my Cerave cleanser which gives a lavish gentle clean.

Hydrating Face Serum

Are we seeing a trend? Finding the right hydrating serum is the perfect base for more targeted serums. The ones that have actives. The order of skin care steps will always be hydrating serums first. Then, targeted ones for other skin concerns.

A good face serum will also double as a skin prep before makeup to bring the skin back to life. A good makeup canvas will have a starting layer of hydration!

Moisturizer and Sunscreen Protection

The sun protection in your makeup is only additive. The base of sun screen during the day is a dedicated sun protection product. I’m currently on the hunt for the right sunscreen. Looking for sunscreen you have to take into consideration skin type. Choosing mineral (physical) sunscreen or chemical sunscreen. Most sunscreens do take a while to melt into the skin. I like to take the time to really massage it in. It helps me also take note of where I'm holding the most tension in my face. And! Promise me you’ll remember to reapply when you’re actively in the sun.

For the evening, I will always recommend this skin care routine step to be thick. Extra thick. Thicker than you expect. This is the face cream that’s going to protect your skin from drying out overnight. It's locking in all that goodness from your face serums. If you have a dry skin type like me. You apply face moisturizer first, then sunscreen on top.

Good skin care makes makeup look even better.

Make the Most Out of Skin Care

Time Allowance

The more time you can consistently give to your skin care routine steps. The better you’ll feel about the results. This doesn’t just applying the products. I'm talking about making sure that you have all the time. The product needs to work. If that's 4-6 weeks, do you have the 4-6 weeks to dedicate to using that product to its best ability?

That is the most luxurious part of skin care. That is what makes skin care feel lavish. It doesn't necessarily have to be the most expensive product or the most amount of steps. It's actually sticking to it the whole time consistently.

Face Skin Care Masks

When it comes to skin care masks. Let me tell you. You only need one good one. You need one that targets your skin concerns. That makes your skin look and feel the best. That one skin care mask will tell you so much about your skin. Then when you're confident, we can add another one.

The second one is to compliment that one good skin care mask. You can have two. One that is extremely hydrating and nourishing to the skin. And, one that's more active and more exfoliating.

What you want to stay away from is skin care masks that are too abrasive. Like anything that's a physical exfoliation. You might want to stay away from. The only exception. Being like those rice powders from Tatcha. Or any kind of very gentle, measured out type of physical exfoliation.

Chemical versus Physcial Sunscreen

Chemical sunscreen protects the skin through converting the sun rays into heat. When they make contact with the skin. This type of sunscreen usually leaves less of a white cast and is more friendly to a diverse skin tone range.

You should go with a chemical sunscreen if you have normal skin sensitivity. Or if you’re going to be putting makeup on top of your sunscreen.

A physcial sunscreen protects the skin through blocking the sun rays from getting on the skin at all. This type of sunscreen usually leaves a heavier white cast even when fully melted into the skin.

You should go with a physical sunscreen for long periods (more than 10 minutes) in direct sunlight. Physcial sunscreens are especially good for enjoying sports and long beach days.

According to season, I love to go with a physcial sunscreen during the hotter months of the year. Since it won’t feel like my face is melting off my body. During the cooler months a chemical sunscreen helps me feel warmer. And, is super comfortable to layer makeup on!
